6 April - Report from CRT that the canal bridge is now open.

5pm Fri 28th Mar  - Update on the canal bridge repairs from Canal and River Trust - full details on Traffic page, but essentially -

"...no works will take place this weekend and the bridge will be kept open to pedestrians and traffic.  The bridge will be closed to pedestrians and traffic at 10pm Sunday 30 March in time for the contractor returning to site on Monday morning.  "

See traffic page for further details of road diversions and Taxi numbers (will be reimbursed by CRT) for those who need them. Despite much effort the Council was unable to get CRT to install a temporary foot bridge for the closure.

Canal Draw Bridge Talybont on Usk - Update

Following considerable attempts at communicating with the Canal and River Trust the Council were finally informed on the afternoon of Wednesday 18 Dec that contractors will be working all weekend and that a temporary fix will be put in place to allow the bridge to be open by Monday.

We will keep you informed of any further updates.

Further information from Cllr Raiff Devlin:
Draw Bridge Update: The Canal & River Trust (CRT) have confirmed that works to enable the bridge to be lowered will be undertaken this week, including over the weekend, with the intention that this will allow the bridge to be lowered and re-opened to traffic on Monday 23rd. Please note that this will not restore the bridge to full operation, and that it will remain in a lowered position until additional repairs can be undertaken.
The red flashing lights will also be turned off, if this has not been completed already.
The work required to fully repair the bridge will be completed in the new year, requiring a short period of closure. The CRT have provided assurance that the required repairs will be programmed in advance and in consultation with Powys County Council and Talybont Community Council.

Community Forum 2024

A big thanks to the participants  , speakers , facilitators and helpers who all helped to make  the Community Forum on the 14th November a success . Our two speakers gave us honest and informative insights and there were  many excellent comments and ideas for future action . We are at present writing up a provisional record of the small group discussions which will go on the Community Council website and Facebook site , initially for comment and hopefully once agreed as a permanent record . 
  We hope as a result of this meeting to identify and agree some actions which the council can promote in conjunction with others .

Living in Powys Survey (deadline 13th Dec) 

A short summary and full approved notes of The Welsh Government representatives meeting with the Community Council at Henderson Hall on 30th January 2024 and 19th September 2023 can be found on the Gilestone Farm page. 

The osprey nest on Gilestone Farm is now being monitored by Welsh Government cameras and here is a link to Usk Valley Ospreys, a group set up by local people to provide information about the  ospreys. The live feed nest camera is now available for public view on uskvalleyospreys.org).

As the branch of government that is closest to the people we strive to reinforce the well-being of our current residents and future generations through open and honest communication.  We are committed to ensuring a safe, sustainable and peaceful community for the enjoyment of locals and visitors alike. Our council stretches through breathtaking countryside, from the peaks of Allt yr Esgair in the the north, to Gwaun y Pynt in the south, Tor y Foel in the East and the Bryn and Waun Ridd in the west. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, River Usk and Caerfanell meander through the valleys and the Talybont, Pentwyn nd Ponsticill Reservoirs provide a home for local wildlife. In our valleys and hills, the days are beautiful and the nights are magical.
